Elana Moscovitch was a participant in the first incarnation of “Write on Mama” — “Writing Through the Twilight Zone”, which started out at The Depanneur on College Street in 2012. She wrote her birth story and the poem ‘Twilight Zone’ during that session. Since then, she has taken several Creative Nonfiction writing classes through the School of Continuing Studies where she learned to write personal essays, memoir and opinion pieces and pitch articles to local newspapers. She also took creative writing courses at Firefly, through George Brown College and Creative Non-Fiction online courses. She writes about Jewish and queer identity, family, parenting and issues related to gender and being a queer family. She has published short essays and pieces in Tablet, the Canadian Jewish News, The Toronto Star, CBC Parent, Teach magazine, Today’s Parent and The Jewish Women’s Archive. She is working on poetry and children’s fiction as well as continuing to write creative non-fiction. Elana will be talking about her writing process and share some ‘borrowed’ prompts for creating the first page of a graphic novel.
